Port Harcourt Refinery’s Rehabilitation Begins Q1 2021

The Nigerian national petroleum corporation(NNPC) has told the media that work on the second phase of the Port-Harcourt refinery will commence in the first quarter of 2021
In an interactive session with the media last Friday, the General managing director Mallam Mele Kyari told journalists about the corporation’s interest in getting the four refineries in the country fully functional. In his words, ”I am happy to announce that the funding challenge that had stalled the second phase of the Port Harcourt Refinery rehabilitation has been resolved. The corporation will soon award the contract for the second phase, and work will commence in Q1 of 2021,”
The GMD said plans are in place to boost exploration and production to raise national reserves to 40 billion barrels and daily production to 3 million. He also disclosed several disputes that hampered the corporation’s progress on rehabilitative processes had been resolved. Measures to boost production output to meet the 3m barrels per day production target are ready for implementation.

“Key among these are disputes involving Shell and Belema Oil that shut in over 30,000 barrels per day production in OML 25.”
