Flying Eagles Begin Training in Accra Ahead of WAFU B U-20 Tournament

Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, have arrived in Accra and started preparations for the highly anticipated WAFU B U-20 Boys Tournament, set to run from July 10 to July 23 in Ghana’s capital.

Originally planned to include teams from both WAFU A and B zones, the tournament will now focus solely on WAFU B nations. Nigeria draws on a talented squad of 20 players, led by captain Daniel Bameyi, fresh from a strong performance at the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, where the team secured third place and qualified for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

Coach Aliyu Zubairu, determined to sharpen his squad’s attacking edge, is integrating experienced players like goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt and midfielders Bidemi Amole, Ezekiel Kpangu, and Divine Oliseh with emerging talents such as Clinton Andy, Abba Sadiq, and Qudus Olayiwola.

Nigeria, winners of the previous two WAFU B tournaments in Niger and Togo, kick off their Group A campaign against hosts Ghana on July 10 at the Prampram Centre, followed by a clash with Benin Republic on July 13. Group B will feature Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Togo
