Lagos State Government Extends Work-From-Home Order

The Lagos State Government has extended the work -from-home directive, given to public servant from Monday, February 1, 2020 to Friday,February 26, 2020. This directive is issued to all state public servants from grade 14 and below as disclosed by the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola on January 31, 2020.

According to Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, the decision taken by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwolu was prompted by concerns on the increasing number of Coronavirus infections observed among Public Servants in the State.

He further stated that the directive is in line with the Presidential Order on Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Health Protection Regulations which states inter-alia that:

“A physical distance of at least two metres shall be maintained at all times between persons” and that “no gathering of more than 50 persons shall hold in an enclosed space, except for religious purposes, in which case the gathering shall not exceed 50% capacity of the space”.

Mr. Muri-Okunola, however reiterated that this directive does not affect essential duty, first responders, and officers on duty rosters of Ministeries, Departments and Agencies (MDAsHe advised all staff to adhere to Covid-19 protocols, including the use of face masks, use of hand sanitizers, social distancing and regular washing of hands with soap and water.

Recall that the Lagos State Government had initially extended  the work-from-home order to all state public servants from Grade 14, from Monday, January 18, 2021, to Monday, February 1, 2021, in a move to curtail the spread of Coronavirus in the state.
